Guterres attends a two-day climate conference in Abu Dhabi, preparing for "Climate Action Summit" in New York in September. "We are here because world is facing a major climate catastrophe," he said.

Guterres said: "Climate chaos is happening even faster than world's leading scientists predict, and we are not able to cope with it. Every week there are new climate disasters ... Floods, droughts, heat waves, wildfires and hurricanes. ."< /p>

He warned that situation would only get worse if "we don't act now, with ambition and haste."

UN Special Representative Luis Alfonso de Alba said meeting in Abu Dhabi, which will bring together government and civil society representatives from dozens of countries, will include 100 proposals for climate protection. Several proposals were selected and sent to summit in New York.

Guterres is still hopeful that Paris Agreement will cut emissions and slow global warming, but said: “We know that even if commitments of Paris Agreement are fully met, we will still face end of century. a jump in temperature of at least 3 degrees Celsius would spell disaster for our life as we know it."

In 2015, almost 200 countries signed in Paris, France, "Paris Agreement on Climate Change", which stipulates that average global temperature should not exceed 2 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial era.
